Not saying the EU countries are doing well, mind you. Far from it. But I don't really see anything bad, or good for that matter, in terms of politics about which you could say that "the EU countries are leading the way" of the US. Polarization, populism, irresponsible spending, failure to balance the budget - none of those are things you need our supposed leadership for.

Sure would be nice if we could reach across the atlantic and get TTIP going, though...
