I think the first and foremost reason why it's ridiculous is that celebrating Pi-Day on 3/14 rounds Pi to the nearest whole number, which is inimical to Pi. If we celebrated it on 3/141592...etc. it would make sense. The fact that we have no such day means we should just honor Pi in its own, irrational way.
