The NFL draft held its first 3 rounds the past two nights and as a long time Giant fan, I expected disappointment. The Giants haven't had a solid draft in years. Yes, their late round picks last year played well and 4 players from the Saquon draft are still on the team, but when was the last draft that produced multiple Pro Bowl players?
Plus Giants GM Dave Gettleman never trades down. Never. Never has.
Until this year. When the Eagles traded up to take DeVonta Smith, Gettleman traded down for the first time in his career and netted an extra #1 pick next year and still got a potential game changing receiver with the 20th pick.
Then in the second round, he did it again! Traded down and still got the edge rusher some draftniks had the Giants picking in the first round. Now the Giants have 2 picks in the 3rd and 4th rounds too next year. Plus he drafted a corner in round 3, trading up to get ahead of the Cowboys.
I'm watching this waiting for the other shoe to drop. Three picks and I didn't hate any of them. But still no blocker taken and that is a big need. If Gettleman manages to get a couple of offensive lineman today that don't look like throw aways this might actually be a successful draft.
I feel like I'm setting myself up for a huge let down.
