I thought he did Sareitha Sedai Send a noteboard - 22/01/2010 06:28:16 PM
Express any general concerns to channel, though, he just considers for a moment that it might be wrong to destroy the Seanchan with the Power of the Choedan Kal. This even indicates that Rand sees no dangers to use the OP (and he also didn't have much problems to channel, when he met Tam, except for the usual nausea). But then Rand already contemplates to hop from Seanchan garrison to garrison and destroy them all. And that he expresses concern that he might lure the Forsaken to him, would also speak for a OP disguise, IMO, since that might reduce the chance that a Forsaken could find Rand.

To me it seems a bit like a continuity error, if an experienced channeler like Rand wants to make himself invisible, but didn't consider that he could simply use an Illusion, especially since he precisely did this in WH. At least BS could have commented on this. Or it is a plot device..

I'll have to look for it more specifically when I get to my re-read, but I do think I remember him thinking (prior to that) about deciding not to channel, that the sickness/risk wasn't worth it for whatever he was thinking about doing. When he was with Tam he was just reacting, not really deciding whether to channel or not. But I didn't see anything odd about his deciding not to channel a disguise at that point in the story because as I said, I got a general sense that he was considering it more throughout this book. The other difference in this and the scene from WH was that when he did choose to disguise himself, there was a reasonable chance he could have been seen by somebody who knew him personally. That wasn't really his concern this time, and so an OP disguise wasn't necessary. Presumably if he had decided to nuke the city and was worried about becoming a beacon for the Forsaken, he could have woven himself a disguise later...
