She loved the creaking sound the stairs made in the dark. She loved the smell of the bathroom in the muted glow of the hallway light. She loved the bump-clickity-clack noise the monster under her bed made as it tucked itself in for the night. She loved the feel of the carpet on her bare feet as she ran silently from one side of the house to the other in search of flying treasure. She loved the rustle of the wind in the trees outside, announcing the coming of the winged tree people. She loved the winged tree people, who danced with her around the garbage bin and taught her how to sing the alphabet backward and showed her where the matches were kept.
Jennica loved sneaking up after her bedtime. That was when all the funny people came out.
