The older kid glanced down, frowning. "What are you doing here? This ain't no place for a kid. This is the science lab."
Jennica pulled herself up onto the chair beside him, and studied all the odd things spread out on the table. "What are you doing?" she asked again.
"Lab #7: Kepler's Law - Prelab," he told her. "Now get outta here."
"My father hates Kepler," she confided. "Who is he, anyway?"
"Damned if I know."
"Then why do you do it?"
The older kid looked disgusted. "For grades, of course."
Jennica, growing bored like an old dog she had once seen sleeping in the grass with his chest barely rising and falling, looked the older kid in the eye. "Well that's stupid," she said, and climbed down, and walked away, certain to never return.
