so I can't say if it may have been justified. I don't think you are insane, so you probably had good reason.

Don't tell him at this point. Maybe somewhere down the line. Unless something he did previously was the reason you felt compelled to do this...then you really need to let him know. But if it was something another guy did (which rereading your post it sounds like it) then don't tell him.
