So a friend, who happens to be trilingual, told me that one of her professors said that people who are multi-lingual tend to shift accents when they are around people with different accents.
Well yes, I speak dutch, english, german and a bit of french.. when speaking dutch, I have no accent.. when speaking english, I have a washington state (US)accent.. well, that is when speaking to non-british people.. I tend to speak in a kind irish accent then. and when speaking german, I tend to speak the local accent of the person I'm talking to. Very weird, but nice, since people tend to be more comfortable around someone that speaks the language well.
