and i do agree with miss huntress, above. i think it has to do with the belief that others will understand us more if we "adopt" their accent for the moment.
i also have a problem of quite frequently slipping while conversing with others and using a completely different accent altogether. 'll go from hardly any accent at all to Texan...and then i'll start speaking as if i was still up in Boston. ._. I'll also switch languages mid-sentence if 'm not careful. that's the bad thing about being multilingual.
