Yeah... I still find picking up any Germanic languages hard. The sounds just don't sound right to me. I guess if I had to I could learn them. I even started to pick some up while reading a few books that use german in with the English.

Did you see the passion of the christ? I ask because the Spanish (and other romance language) speakers I know who saw it say they began to understand the latin pretty early on in the movie. I was wondering you had.
actually, yeah...I thought that was really interesting to do. I took a clas in Spanish Linguistics on the historical change of the language a few years ago and that made it even more interesting to me because it was a plethora of examples for the language changes I learned about

I do the same when I hear Italian. I've never learned Italian but I can understand it enough to listen in on a conversation It does help to also know French, though...most words either come from the same place as Spanish or else French...one or the other
