So a friend, who happens to be trilingual, told me that one of her professors said that people who are multi-lingual tend to shift accents when they are around people with different accents.
Um, duh? I don't see why this would only go for multi-lingual people... if, for instance, an American goes to live in the UK for a year for some exchange program or such, don't you think he/she will be speaking with a British accent when returning, as well?
I have this to a rather large degree, though... put me around Dutchies for like ten minutes, and I already catch myself pronouncing certain sounds really exaggeratedly like they do. Same thing for when I was in Québec... but that was cause Québecois is just that cool.
