That’s one of the things I like about MT more than DG

"Midnight Tides is without a doubt among Erikson's better work, but it isn't quite as dramatic, overwhelming and generally awe-inspiring as parts of Deadhouse Gates.."
Parts of Deadhouse Gates are fantastic, but huge parts of it are rather so and so, particularly the first 400 pages are pretty dull. Midnight Tides is much better throughout the book, things I general feel much more relevant to the overall plot of the book, than Fiddler, Kalam and Icarium walking in the desert without much happening for large parts of the first half.

I have the same experience with rereads of Erikson always bringing new things to the fore.

MT was just as good as those two, IMHO of course.

Never quite thought of Erikson's series as being akin to screwing in the backseat...

Fans of the series told me that "Gardens of the Moon" isn't a good book to start with.
