i would love to have a first edition printing of the hobbit actually moondog Send a noteboard - 03/06/2010 05:09:34 AM
It talked about how perhaps some of these books hadn't even been opened yet, and the thrill of opening them as the first ever person (um, sure, that's worth hundreds of thousands of pounds...). Then the expert went "But of course if you bought them, you wouldn't do that". So er, yeah, I have to agree with you - why on earth would you pay a fortune for books that you then don't even open?

i have a printing from the mid-60s which has a disclaimer in the front of it about the whole "bilbo didn't tell us the truth" recap and made mention of other alterations to the story that this version i have got correct. i would love to see the difference between my version and the original printed one. whether or not that's worth 10s of thousands of dollars i'm not entirely sure...
