Yea the egyptian stuff in the first book was interesting. Set was pretty odd not sure who he is yet, favorite setting so far though has to be the British controlled egypt like mars world.

On the VR experience yeah I'd love that to, though I kept thinking of better uses for the money they put into it, terraform mars for goodness sakes. The answer to having the people live in stadiums is to move them off the planet *grumble*

I think the series holds up about 98% on the quality meter as you read all the books -- funny you are reading it now and commenting on the feasibility of the technology. I read the series through the 90's and have been waiting ever since for my Otherland quality VR experience!!! Hello, technological geniuses out there!!! Get cracking!

My favorite allusions are the egyptian references to do with certain characters -- but I can't tell you too much more because I don't want to put forward any spoilers.
