I got the one-volume version with magnifying glass because I didn't have the space for the full volumes. The thing is still 19 inches tall and over 5 inches thick and weighs 15 pounds. But IT is on the way.
I own the CD-ROM version, myself. The twenty-volume set would be really, really nice, but given how often I moved at the time, especially since it was all overseas, the computer version made a whole lot more sense for me. Also, it was $400 versus $2,000. That was big money to me in 1994.
EDIT: Actually, now that I've thought about it a bit more, it was probably 1997. Still, it was a splurge.
Slightly off topic, but not too far, there was a somewhat popular book on the making of the OED published about a decade ago. It's called The Professor and the Madman: A Tale of Murder, Insanity and the Making of the OED. I don't recall it as being anything too terribly special, but it was interesting and enjoyable enough. Might be worth a look.

IT is on its way to my home. The Complete Oxford English Dictionary, that is.
