Do you think Elizabeth knew the true nature of the mimes and Ike? I ask myself how she could be so close but not know but then part of the story says she went seeking the rest of the Dragon and could not find anyone. What do you think?
I have been wondering about that, too. My impression is that she did not know, but that the mimes had attached themselves to her. But I have no evidence for that belief.
Their reveal was definitely one of my favorite scenes.
Yes!
I also loved when Master Wu explained "secrets" to Gonzo (the narrator) and Elizabeth. As all wise old gong fu masters do, he gave just the information that would be needed one day and nothing more.
Huh. When I think of Gonzo and the narrator, the two are very clearly separated in my mind. It would never occur to me to refer to the narrator as Gonzo (although technically he was part of Gonzo).
I liked when Ronnie Cheung showed respect for the "soft styles".
I didn't like Aline and the whole anti-establishment group and their scenes. I found them utterly boring and cliche "revolutionaries" and their conversations were boring as well.
I agree. I can see how it was useful in setting up both Zaher Bey and give a reason for the military being his only option, but it is not my favourite part of the book.
I also disliked the section where the narrator/Gonzo is being shelled by friendly fire and he is describing stretchermen and so on. It too was boring and all it set up for was his meeting Leah.
Ah. I liked that, actually. I thought it was quite a powerful description, and I liked how it focused on stetchermen rather than normal soldiers.
