It seemed to me he intentionally left it vague and ambiguous, but I'd be curious to hear what the Americans and Brits (or (former) British residents ) thought about that. Certain things struck me as more British, others as American (the sports scholarship thing, for instance, though otoh obviously rugby is more a British sport - and the use of the word "truck" whereas I've been informed the Brits call it a "lorry".

On a completely unrelated topic, was it just my copy that had a rather large number of typing errors? That was a bit annoying, though obviously it's not really Harkaway's fault so much as his editors'.
