Yes, it improves. BlackAdder Send a noteboard - 05/07/2010 08:38:05 PM
I'm just over halfway through the first book.

I really like the idea of Allomancy (although the words Pushing and Pulling are starting to annoy me), and the Inquisitors are rather neat.

However, it's very simplistic. Does it develop more nuance later on? I mean, the whole "nobles are evil because they don't care about skaa" thing is a little too much.

I didn't like his writing style to start off with, but I've warmed to that. Very much like the extracts that begin each chapter. They give the book a different feeling. I hope something interesting comes of them.

Not sure he's got his characterisatiobn correct yet. Does that improve too? Some of them have a lot of promise (the Lord Actor chap and Sazed, for example), but others are pretty much cardboard cutouts.

So. It's Sanderson's second book, right? I know he gets better at writing, but is that evident in this trilogy?

The first half of each of the mistborn books (really all of Sanderson's books) is pretty slow, IMO. The second half/final third is where it "gets good" so to speak.
