Is there any distinguishing characteristics? Something unique in this formulaic fantasy genre?
That is the flaw - it 'sounds' formulaic and to be honest it is in many ways.
I guess the thing that makes it interesting is the relationship between Martil and Karia, both of who are emotionally damaged and who find something in the other they need to move on.
