I think that's half the point. Rebekah Send a noteboard - 15/08/2010 10:42:58 PM
And I don't feel the love of England in this book that I feel for Japan in his other stuff.

It's one way in which he twists the "genre" a little. Most semi-autobiographical works looking pack at childhood are coloured with a happy nostalgia. Mitchell's version is more realistic. Being a young teenager isn't actually all that great, and often we forget that.

So. I liked the book for that reason.

I've not yet read number9dream so I can't compare it with that. I've only read Cloud Atlas and this, but I want to read everything.

I'm going to his talk at the Edinburgh Book Festival, so that should be good.
