These are good possibilities for getting the bridges across, but as I said before, the bridges are so important to the story, that these details need to be explained. They simply weren't.
And I agree with you here. It never was explained very well. I'm sure Sanderson has all of it worked out, because it's too big a thing not to have it all fleshed out, but we need to know more of the workings.
For now, I'll assume one it's something simple, like weighted bridges.
That's why there was only three ways to get on the "Tower" plateau for the Alethi.
