Did you figure out early on what was going on? And if not, were your guesses far off? What were your feelings when you finally discovered what it was all about? Did you like being kept in the dark for so long?
In which case that got spoiled for me before I started, though I don't remember how. However, I don't think it would've been all that hard figuring that out.
But if you mean what Hailsham was all about then, no, I didn't figure out until the nice little scene with Tommy, Kathy and the headmistress when it was spelled out.
I'll add more later.

I find it difficult to sympathise with these characters and I wonder whether that's deliberate.

Since Chas is making me wonder...
What did you think of the book? Like it, love it, hate it? *NM*

And I'm officially overusing the phrase "what did you think". *NM*

Crap. I hope I didn't come across as too negative, because I loved the book.

I thought of The Island, too - same premise, very different approach.

Right. A better answer, now that I've got the book and have refreshed my memory.
