He's one of the leading experts on it ;) Just as a disclaimer I study War Studies at King's College London and he's widely recommended as a go to guy to read/email if you're wanting to know more about Rome.
He's good to read as he generally aims his books at the non-academic (always a good thing!) but he still injects enough academic stuff into them if you're looking to get into it a bit more seriously.
