And I've heard of Frances Yates, though I can't remember what for. Sounds interesting.


She wrote a number of historical treatises about the influence of occultism and esoteric tradition on the early scientific revolution. There is one book on Giordano Bruno and the hermetic tradition, for example. I haven't read it yet, but I think she argues that him getting burnt at the stake is as much for his hermetic tendency as for his views on the organisation of the solar system.

And there is another book about the occult influence on Elizabethan philosophy. And loads more. Much of it centres around this idea of the mix of science and occultism, though.
