Saw it at the library and it looked interesting... which it was. The story was absolutely fascinating.

I had mixed feelings about the book itself, though. Aside from the writing, which was ok (although I cringe when a biologist refers to a "poisonous snake";), I got a weird vibe from it. The whole "white reporter connects with black family when no one else can" felt rather contrived. At times it felt like she was describing taming a wild animal, which was rather disturbing. Am I weird for feeling that way, or did you pick up on that too?


Might in the near future, but until I do, I can't answer that question.


I was confused by the "read/own" statement... I gather now you meant one or the other, not both. Well, hopefully I didn't color your impression too much if you do read it now.
