I also agree that there is some very literary sci-fi/fantasy (like Tolkien or Asimov) but the problem is that most of what people report to reading here is not of that quality. I'm not saying it's not fun to read...it's just not the sort of thing that you're proud to say you've just finished reading because it doesn't help you "grow" as a person. It's just entertainment, like watching Star Wars.
