We are having a hard time finding books for my son, so I thought I'd pick a few brains here. He is reading way above his grade level, so his school library has really nothing to offer him.
The biggest problem I run into is that if the material is advanced enough to challenge him it is frequently also more...mature than he is ready for. This is not me protecting or sheltering him, I've tried to broaden what he reads before and things will scare him or make him uncomfortable. For example, he quit reading Harry Potter at the lake of Inferi.
Any suggestions are helpful. The latest series he enjoyed were Percy Jackson and Alcatraz. He's open to more styles, I just lean towards Fantasy myself.
Thanks everyone!
They would at least be a good balance between age appropriateness and higher reading level. There are quite a few that I liked in this list.
Suggestions for my 11 year old son?

Yes. This is what I read at that age and loved it. Also Harry Harrison. *NM*

Yeah, I guess most of the children's books I read weren't American.
