That was ... oh my god, almost ten years ago. I loved the characters and the humour. I especially remember the end of the world party. I think the opening was what really got me, because it is still what I remember best. That and Samad trying to justify his affair with the teacher (if I remember correctly). I also rather liked the twins. Perhaps I should reread it.

Yeah, the end of the world party is fairly early on. It is a rather good opening.

The teacher thing (you do remember correctly) was quite interesting, but then Samad in general was very interesting. The twins were fun, but perhaps a bit too much stereotyped, particularly Magid (the smart one who went to live in Bangladesh but ironically came back "more English than the English";).


Yes, if I recally correcly, she does make ample use of stereotypes. But she did it well, I thought.
