He would not have had time to tell her the first time, and I think he would have felt certain that Lizzy would not have told anyone who would pass it on, and telling Georgiana that he had told Lizzy would only create awkwardness between the two.

Although I wonder whether Georgiana worked it out when Lizzie (I don't like Ys) ignored Caroline Bingley's barb.
