Guy Gavriel Kay, some advice please Katja Send a noteboard - 02/12/2010 08:33:33 PM
Hi peeps.

I've been recommended Guy Gavriel Kay several times as I've been told he's amazing, and a few years ago I picked up and read Tigana. I was unimpressed. I just didn't buy the story for some reason. Can't say exactly why anymore, as I don't remember the details of the plot.

Now I'm considering trying again, to see if his other work does more for me.

So, do you think Tigana was typical for Guy Gavrial Kay? If not, how was it different?

And, knowing that I didn't particularly enjoy Tigana, what would you recommend? I've heard the Fionavar Tapestry is good, but that's a trilogy right? What are the best stand-alones he's done?

Maybe I should mention that things I really like include mostly everything from Neil Gaiman, most of China Miéville, A Song of Ice and Fire, His Dark Materials, Neal Stephenson, Dune, Red Mars, etc etc. I could go on and on.

Thanks in advance!
Katja
