I love Kay. - Edit 1

But not Tigana so much. I think it's overwrought and somewhat juvenile.

The Fionavar Tapestry is better for its ideas than execution, I think, but it's a good read.

My favourite: The Lions of Al-Rassan. It's a truly beautiful work, with a lot of deep thought and fabulous characters, and (mostly) excellent writing. It's not perfect, but I think it's one of the best books fantasy has to offer.

I'd say try this one. If you don't like it by the end of Part Two then Kay probably isn't for you. (This is taken with your thoughts on Tigana, btw, not just this book.)

A Song for Arbonne is also wonderful.

The Sarantine Mosaic (a duology) is pretty good as well. I think I'd rate it about the same as Tigana though they are very different books.

As for my taste: I hate ASoIaF, like Gaiman (mostly for Sandman), love Pratchett, enjoyed Dune, like MiƩville, loathe His Dark Materials, adore Harry Potter and mostly prefer to read non-genre books. ;)

Hope that helps.
