While this is intended for Legolas, I'll give you my answer: I don't think it is beyond you. You could always read the first book and then put it aside if you find it impossible. But if you are not used to reading epic poems, I would start with the Iliad or the Odyssey. Milton is a tougher read, and not as entertaining.

Yeah I might try that but...I always feel guilty starting something then putting it down. Is the first book a few hundred pages or about two?

I've read the Odyssey, a few times actually and of a few different translations. The Iliad I read on and off throughout the years. But those were definitely more exciting that what I hear of Paradise Lost...Plus all the religious stuff Legolas mentioned...I'm not so sure.
Oh and my username is what it is because I couldn't think of a better username...I'm not trying to be obnoxious.
