I distinctly remember reading this book in sunny Tenerife, not exactly the most appropriate location to read a vampire novel, and perhaps due to that I cannot remember having been scared at any point.
I'm intrigued by the comments about Van Helsing's English, though - I read it in Dutch translation at the time, so obviously that wouldn't have showed.

But you mightn't have found it scary simply because you're not a wimp like I am.
Re reading it in Dutch: I wonder how well that would have worked. It is so British a novel (yes, Stoker might have been Irish, but the Irish were British at that time) that translations must lose a lot.

It has been a while since I read it (should probably do something about that), but I think I agree.

You know, I have to agree with Cannoli, though without the all caps and the queen-fucking.

I won't be as mad as Cannoli, or pedantic as Tom but it is an Irish novel
