While I agree that technically if there's no price, there's no sale, I very much doubt that news outlets are conscientious enough to make sure they don't accidentally (or even accidentally-on-purpose) change "115 e-books were downloaded for every 100 books sold" to "115 e-books were sold for every book sold".
