I had the non-lighted cover and it's doing that to a LOT of people. It might be possible that the lighted one is doing it, too. Contact Amazon and see. Your Kindle is not acting correctly. I'm actually glad the cover was no good. I got my money back and now only use a sleeve. With the smaller size and non-skid back, I love just holding the "naked" Kindle to read.
