The Banned and the Banished novel series by James Clemens is pretty good. A dark/epic fantasy with a twisted ending.

The Cycle of Fure trilogy by Janny Wurts.
I would recommend her "The Wars of Light and Shadow" series but many find it exhausting to read as it gets pretty verbose and lengthy. Also it hasn't finished even after 8 books.

Otherland quadrology (sci-fi) by Tad Williams.
Shadowmarch quadrology is also excellent.

The Snow Queen Cycle by Joan D. Vinge is very good sci-fi read.

The Demon Wars saga by R.A. Salvatore was pretty good.

The Runelords series by David Farland.

Starfish by Peter Watts. Excellent sci-fi trhriller. The sequels were pretty decent as well. (Rifters trilogy)

Horizon War trilogy by Robert Weinberg (Mage the Ascension/ World of Darkness book)

"The Warrior's Tale" & "The Warrior Returns" by Allan Cole - both are part of the Anteros series but do not require you to read the preceding books. The first is a fun lesbian feminist romp about a group of women warriors who battle wizards, demons, pirates and sexism on land and at sea. The 2nd book brings our heroine back for one last adventure.
