but the two are still separate in "mind" (I put it in quotes, because how could the human still have a mind?).

If you're referring to humans projecting their minds into an anima;s, here's a couple:

It's not a big part of the series, but it's been mentioned a couple of times in A Song of Ice and Fire. Same with David Eddings' Belgariad and Mallorean series.

In Dean Koontz's The Bad Place, two of the bad guys have the ability to inhabit animals' bodies.


There's a lot more books where the main character transforms into an animal. I'm not sure if that's what you're looking for, though.
