i also agree on robin hobb, and naomi novik might be useful to try too. hobb is awesome awesome awesome. guy gavriel kay could also do you some good. and marion zimmer bradley would be lovely, the avalon stuff and the ghostlight/witchlight etc series. if i knew what authors she was reading i'd have more precise suggestions, but these are of a fair certainty to win over ladies. i loved all of them. oh and diana gabaldon's outlander series is a bit magical yet very girly-excellent so think about that too.
