If science ever gets around to human cloning - which does seem plausible - we will definitely run into moral problems, but I don't really see it happening that they'd be treated any different from "normal" humans. Fortunately.
I think you are more of an optimist than I am.
I imagine, if it ever got to that point, they would be kept somehow in a vegetable state, or some such. I do not think we could face raising and then killing someone who could speak for the benefit of others. And so we would make sure they did not speak.
If we did, how do you think we'd treat these people?
I'd like to think our societies are better than that... that we would emphatically reject the idea of using humans as, well, cattle really. Of course, if it did happen, one can see how people would start seeing them as second class citizens, and who knows where that would lead... scary thought.
It is, indeed.

I have just discovered that I loaned the book to someone recently as well.

Might as well start with this - what did you think of Ishiguro's subtle treatment of the key issue?

Are we talking the fact that they were clones?

I may not be all that good in figuring such things out, but it wasn't so evident to me at all.

I figured it out almost straight away.

What did you think of the characters?

I find it difficult to sympathise with these characters and I wonder whether that's deliberate.

Since Chas is making me wonder...
What did you think of the book? Like it, love it, hate it? *NM*

And I'm officially overusing the phrase "what did you think". *NM*

Crap. I hope I didn't come across as too negative, because I loved the book.

I thought of The Island, too - same premise, very different approach.

Right. A better answer, now that I've got the book and have refreshed my memory.

Did you just compare Robert Jordan's writing style favourably to Ishiguro's?
