I allow myself the occasional lapse.

Gotta love raiding the various pantheons for your god's housewarming party. And didn't he marry Minerva to El Gabaal?

I have heard stories of a giant black phallus in a temple on Palatine Hill (probably dedicated to El Gabal), the rape of a Vestal virgin in order to father a divine child, dressing up like a female prostitute and propositioning the court (with some force behind the propositioning and a soft, melting voice), and (of course) the smothering of dinner guests in tons of rose petals. As you do. Wasn't there also something about roasting people inside a metal bull?
Naturally they blamed it all on the women who had put him in power.

Had to check to make sure I was thinking of the right guy; I learned about him as "Elagabalus."
