I'm a "city" person. I don't like Nature and Nature doesn't like me. I can still distinguish different types of trees from one another.

In a fantasy world setting, or in any pre-industrial setting in fiction, people spent a lot more time outdoors. I suspect that 10 out of 10 people in those settings could tell the trees apart.
Political correctness is the pettiest form of casuistry.
