Possibly a bit more so than Bertière though, true. These books are after all thirty years older than Bertière's.
Well, age does not necessarily make it more difficult for me. I find Dumas easier than much newer fiction.
Still, it read smoother and had far less difficult vocabulary than Madame Bovary, that's for sure.
That is not the standard I usually use
