Valyria is just southeast of the Free Cities, on the southern coast of Essos. It is between the Free cities and Slaver's Bay.

But the Peninsula that used to be Valyria (think of something similar to Italy jutting out from the southern part of Europe), experienced a cataclysmic volcanic event 400 years before the present, and as a result most of it was submerged below the sea. The parts that remain are now islands just south of the continent of Essos.

Not a lot, as that's where the Dothraki Sea touches the coast. - 08/04/2011 04:25:34 PM 1056 Views
Huh. I always pictured them as being much closer together. - 07/04/2011 07:48:52 PM 968 Views
I think the name is very fitting, and hints at an ancient "First Language" that named all continents - 07/04/2011 07:54:13 PM 1051 Views
"Sothoryos" does sound kinda cool, I'll admit. - 07/04/2011 07:59:53 PM 1362 Views
