Clavell's asian saga Lo'oris Send a noteboard - 17/04/2011 08:50:05 PM
I've read and loved both Sh?gun and Tai-Pan, then I've read Gaijin and, despite having read it almost as avidly as the other two, I was very disappointed by it.

I felt it like a soulless book, maybe due to the fact that it lacks a strong great character and focuses on personal problems of a bunch of not very interesting and definitely not brilliant guys, rather than being epic such as warring to unify a nation or to establish an important city such as Hong Kong.

Considering this, would you suggest me to read another book of the saga (King Rat would be the next-in-line following the narrative order, but I might decide not to follow it), or to read something else entirely?

Io iudico bene questo: che sia meglio essere impetuoso che respettivo, perché la fortuna è donna ed è necessario, volendola tenere sotto, batterla e urtarla.
