I have had a feeling it could go horribly wrong if not done right, but your review has set my mind at ease. It sounds exciting.

I'm quite curious to see what you'll make of it, given your knowledge of the period and its literature. I think you'll probably spot a lot more little things, of a literary or historical nature, than I did (like any references to Henry James. There are many to Wells's stuff, and many to Stoker, so presumably...). Hopefully there's not too much socio-cultural stuff that will spoil your fun. I didn't notice too much, but my knowledge comes a lot from other novels, so I'm no expert. The only little thing is that I found the characters less class conscious than I see usually (perhaps because there's no one above the middle-class in there)..

I'm guessing a bit about the "horribly wrong" (and I suspect it's not something we should go into much before you read it) but I think he may have avoided the traps you feared he might fall into.
