As for the rest of it, I've heard similar arguments and criticisms leveled at heavy metal music, bikinis, and Dungeons and Dragons. It's always more of the same. Civilization in decline, lookit what those kids are doing these days.


On another note, it's not literature for children. It's YA. Which, yes, generally is a meaningless distinction, but in this case I think it's relevant. Children read stories about sharing, bullies, and the Boxcar Children. Young Adult books can be on anything under the sun.
