The accusations of kidnapping and rape all stem from Robert & Co. as part of their post-rebellion justification for everything they did. Not to mention the fact that Robert desperately wanted to believe that there was no way Lyanna (the woman he was obsessed with) could have gone willingly.

But everything we learn about Rhaegar from OTHER than Robert and Ned seems to show us a man who was as gallant a knight as they come.

I'll believe Ser Barristan over Ned and Robert any day on what Rhaegar was like.
