I would have said Mahfouz, but that would have been too easy. And yes, certain authors deserve extra chances, so why not?
I think Pamuk is a lot more famous in the West at the moment than Mahfouz, actually - his Noble Prize and his famous works are more recent, after all. Mahfouz's best-known works in the Arab world were already three or four decades old by the time he got his Noble Prize, and that's two decades ago now.
I have however read more by Mahfouz (to wit: one novel in Dutch, a number of chapters of another in Arabic, and two or three short stories in Arabic) than by Pamuk (one novel).
