The poetry will be in nasta'liq, so I might as well learn it sooner rather than later. I'm thinking I might actually buy the Rosetta Stone software for Persian, just so I can speed things up a bit (usually I don't have the patience for such software).

Never used Rosetta Stone, though I'm amused at how your "speeding things up" requires "patience that you usually don't have". :P

I've always thought nasta'liq looked extremely tiresome to read, but I suppose with some effort it has to be doable... still, rather you than me. ;)

For the sake of practicing the alphabet, you could also try reading lots of loanwords or words that you already know, like e.g. this (and how's that for an URL?).
