For some reason I'm opposed to an ending being given to the book but it doesn't bother me if it is done for TV. I think it is because I see the TV version as enough of an original work (as any TV/ film version of a book requires some reworking) that it doesn't bother me while someone rewiting the ending of the book just seems like cheating (trying to claim some of another author's work for your own) or cheapening (dragging them down to your level).

for a continued series it is trickey - some I'm okay with some but not others. Generally I'm okay with series that are just about the character (Sherlock, Bond) rather than the world as well (Hitch hikers, Dune) and if the character is potrayed in a way that seems to me to be true to how the author made them originally. This does extend to versions of the character in other media as well - hence I have no interest in the Ritchie Sherlock Holmes films but really enjoy the TV series.
